Brendon McCullum is likely to quit his position as head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) as he assumes the head coach job of the England Test squad. This will be McCullum’s initial task as a full-time head coach for a country. He is apparently the frontrunner to succeed Chris Silverwood as the first choice for England Test team coach. McCullum guided the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League(CPL) in addition to leading KKR to the finals the previous season.
It must be mentioned that McCullum was among the most dashing batsmen throughout his career, and he still retains the milestone for the quickest Test century off only 54 balls versus Australia in the 2015-16 year. He owns the top score of 302 in the longest format, and his commitment to the sport has also influenced his teaching technique.
McCullum informed us that he won’t be part of the KKR, said the source
Since last year’s 0-4 defeat in the Ashes, England fired Silverwood as head coach and hired Paul Collingwood as acting head coach for the following Test series versus West Indies. Unfortunately, England fell 0-1 against West Indies once more, and the hunt for a permanent head coach continued. In recent weeks, numerous candidates were mentioned, but McCullum has emerged as the front-runner, and a formal confirmation is imminent.
Eventually, at a gathering with the squad, the former player for the KKR shared his stance with his teammates. As most people are aware, Brendon McCullum set the Indian Premier League ablaze when he scored a sensational 158 runs in the opening match of the maiden season of the tournament.
“He informed us that he won’t be part of KKR going ahead as he will be taking up a job as England cricket team coach. He informed us during a team meeting a few days ago,” said a KKR insider.
A KKR source stated that McCullum disclosed in a discussion a few days ago that he would quit at the conclusion of the ongoing IPL season to become England’s head coach. In June, England will host New Zealand in 3 Test match series, therefore McCullum would have to begin his mission versus his birth country.
