India vs Australia CWG 2022: Australia victory against India

India vs Australia CWG 2022: With a stunning comeback victory at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Friday, Australia began their Commonwealth Games campaign (July 29). The World Champions, who were under pressure for the whole of the second innings, successfully chased down India’s score with one over remaining.

Using the new ball, Renuka Singh delivered a fantastic set of deliveries. With the top four batswomen, Alyssa Healy, Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney, and Tahlia McGrath, out of the famous Australian batting order, she did it in just 13 deliveries. Four consecutive overs were bowled by Renuka, who concluded with stellar stats of 4 for 18. When Deepti Sharma caught Rachael Haynes at point, the Australians—who had fallen to 34/4 in the fifth over—suffered yet another loss.

At 49/5, Australia appeared hopeless in the pursuit. At that point, Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris teamed together. For the sixth wicket, the pair put together a 51-run partnership, with the latter being the aggressive batsman against the Indian spinners. The Australians still needed 55 runs in 7 overs when Harris’s innings were cut short by a superb running catch from Harmanpreet.

In addition to taking Jess Jonassen’s wicket in the 15th over, which Deepti Sharma bowled for just two runs, the asking rate also neared nine runs per over. Gardner wasn’t using his bat very well up to that moment and was just striking at run-a-ball. At that point, India would have been the happier team, but Meghna’s final over changed the dynamic as she let up 15 runs.

Smriti Mandhana struck a flurry of boundaries early on, totaling five, helping India get off to a quick start after choosing to bat. Chasing a broad delivery from Darcie Brown, she died at the age of 24. Shafali Verma smashed three consecutive fours off McGrath after a few calm overs, and the bowler should have stumped the batswoman, but Healy blew a chance to do so by breaking the stumps with the incorrect hand.

Mastika was defeated by a serious misunderstanding, and Verma was joined by Harmanpreet Kaur. The pair launched an attack, with Shafali hitting Darcie for four boundaries in a single over. The batting collapse was stopped by Jonassen and Garnder, with the latter taking three wickets, including Verma’s for 48.

India vs Australia CWG 2022 Quick scores: Australia Women beat India Women 157 for 7 in 19 overs (Ashleigh Gardner 52, Alana King 18; Renuka Singh 4-18), defeating India Women 154 for 8 in 20 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 52, Shafali Verma 48; Jess Jonassen 4-22) by 3 wickets.
