India stun Thailand by 74 runs to reach Women’s Asia Cup final

Team India registered a comprehensive 74-run victory over Thailand to reach the final Women’s Asia Cup 2022 on Thursday.

After posting a 148 on in the semi-final game against the Thailand side, the Indian bowlers restricted the opposition batters to just 74 to claim a comfortable victory.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma starred with the ball, as she took three important wickets in her spell of 4-over spell.

India Vs Thailand match highlights

Invited to bat, India lost Smriti Mandhana in the fifth over of the game. The Vice-captain only managed to score 13 in the semi-final game.

Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet then added 42 for the third wicket. Rodrigues got out on 27. While Kaur walked back after scoring 36 off 30.

Thailand to chase 149 in 20 overs

A not so tough task in T20 now-a-days to chase 149 in 20 overs, Thailand failed to do so as they were bundled out for just 74.

However, it will be moment of pride for the 12th-ranked team in the ICC T20 rankings to reach the semi-finals of the multi-team tournament event.

Their start to the run-chase were deeply disturbed by all-rounder Deepti Sharma. She is in the form of her life right now. Sharma removed three of their top batters in no time. And from there on they found it hard to bounce back.

Apart from skipper Naruemol Chaiwai and Nattaya Boochatham, who both scored 21-21 each, no other batter were able to touch the double digit mark.

Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowler for team India. She bagged 3 wickets in 4 overs by giving just 7 runs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad also grabbed 2 wickets in the process.

Highest run-scorer in the tournament

Jemimah Rodrigues continued to lead the list with her 215 runs in 7 games. She maintains a whopping average of 71.67 and with a strike-rate of 137.82 in the process. She is 49 runs ahead of the second-highest Harshitha Madavi. And will most likely to end the tournament as the highest-run scorer if she performed well in the finals too.

Highest wicket-taker in the tournament

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma is currently leading the charts after picking 13 wickets in 7 games at an average of 7.15.

Player of the match

Shafali Verma awarded with player of the match title for her impressive knock of 42 in just 28 deliveries that provided India a strong start in the game. Her knock included five fours and a maximum.
