BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, starting on August 18.
Virat Kohli, who was on rest during the ongoing West Indies, was expected to be picked up for the tour, found no place in the side. While the other star Indian Jasprit Bumrah hINdas also been given an extended rest to prepare well for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Shikhar Dhawan, who recently led India to a 3-0 win in the ODI series against West Indies in West Indies, again has chosen to lead the side, but this time a more younger Indian team will be part of the tour.
The players who competed in the ODI series against the West Indies, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Arshdeep Singh, were not selected for the team that will travel to Zimbabwe. Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, and team India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma are all as expected will not be a part of this tour. Even in that case, Shikhar Dhawan’s starting lineup appears to be a good one.
Shubman Gill, who won his maiden player of the series award in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies, retained his place in the side.
The speedster Deepak Chahar, who was injured and out for a considerable amount of time, has re-joined the team. Washington Sundar has returned from an injury, while Rahul Tripathi has also received his first ODI call-up.
India last toured to Zimbabwe in 2016 under MS Dhoni, for an ODI series, which the men in maroon won by 3-0.
The Harare Sports Club will host all three of the contests in Zimbabwe, with the opening ODI set for August 18th.
