With a modest target of 139 to chase, Brandon King and Kyle Mayers set the tone with a 46-run opening stand. Mayers and Pooran were taken out of the game by Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin, but King kept robbing the Indian bowling assault.
However, Pooran left after the tenth over, and Hetmyer was unable to continue. With just 38 required from 30 balls and seven wickets in hand, West Indies were in a good position.
After some tense moments in the final few overs, Thomas came to the rescue and ended the game for the Windies after the wicket of King caused some concern in the Windies dressing room.
India staged a great comeback as Shimron Hetmyer was quickly removed by Ravindra Jadeja and Arshdeep Singh. The player of the match in the final two overs was Arshdeep Singh, who scored 1/10. With 10 required off of the last over, Arshdeep initiated the contest. However, Rohit Sharma made an intriguing choice by giving Avesh Khan the ball rather than Bhuvneshwar Kumar at that point.
