Head coach Rahul Dravid anchor for stylish batter Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav, who is perhaps the best T20 batter in the world right now, has practically given the rest of the field an inferiority complex.

Surya once again astounded the cricket world with his spectacular 51-ball 112 against Sri Lanka in the third T20I of the series in Rajkot. After watching him achieve yet another T20 ton, his coach Rahul Dravid, who had a very different playing style when he was a batter, couldn’t help but make fun of the attacking batter.

Following the game, the BCCI posted a video in which Surakumar and Dravid could be seen having a spontaneous conversation. At that point, Dravid made fun of Surya by implying that the latter had never seen him bat as a child and pointing out that, in contrast, he had been a defensive batter throughout his playing days.

Rahul Dravid turns anchor for stylish batter Suryakumar Yadav

“It is lovely to have someone here with me who as a young kid growing up, did not watch me bat. And I hope you didn’t, I am sure you didn’t,” said Dravid in a video posted by BCCI.tv before both him and Suryakumar broke out in laughter. “I did,” said the India No. 4 while laughing.

The way Suryakumar bats contrasts sharply with the way Dravid played cricket. While Surya may undoubtedly be compared to the former India captain in terms of style, panache, and elegance, Dravid’s batting was far more traditional. He is known as “The Wall” for a reason.

Dravid was in charge when Suryakumar was establishing himself by toiling away for years at the India A level. And ironically, he is the head coach right now when SKY is shining for the senior team. Suryakumar’s unbroken 112 was his third T20I century in a six-month period. All three of SKY’s aggressive knocks have come under Dravid.

Surya’s third T20 century

Every single one of Suryakumar’s century has come under Dravid. Whether it was the commanding 117 against England at Trent Bridge in July. The disobedient 111 against New Zealand, or last night’s epic.

Suryakumar discussed his strategy for the game after the match. The seasoned hitter made a significant confession. He admitted that he puts himself under pressure. Even while practising for a game in order to improve his ability to handle pressure during play.

“It is really important to put pressure on yourself when you are preparing for the game. The more pressure you put, the better you can play. There is a lot of hard work involved. Some quality practice sessions are also involved,” Suryakumar said after his blazing century.

Surya’s knock help India clinch series 2-1

India won the third T20I by 91 runs to clinch the series 2-1 thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s heroics.
