Hardik Pandya likely to lead India in home series against Sri Lanka, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to be rested

Hardik Pandya Captaincy: Hardik Pandya will captain India against Sri Lanka in the T20 series because Rohit Sharma is still recuperating. In a few days, the squads for the SL T20s and ODIs will be announced by the departing selection committee.

For the ODI series, Rohit Sharma will most likely make a comeback. Selectors will make a decision this week after speaking with the BCCI medical staff. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are likely to rest. KL Rahul’s form is not suitable for T20I style and he may no longer play for India in T20 matches.

The two Indian white ball squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, which begins January 3, will be chosen by the departing selection committee, headed by Chetan Sharma, as the new panel won’t be named for another week, according to BCCI sources.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) anticipates conducting interviews with the candidates who made the short list to determine the selection committee members between December 26 and December 28.

“The old committee will probably select the Sri Lanka white ball squad,” a BCCI source privy to development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“As of now, it doesn’t look like Rohit Sharma’s finger will heal enough before the T20Is and in that case, Hardik will lead the side. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, his T20I days seem to be numbered.”

Break for Virat Kohli from T20I

It’s possible that the T20I side that will be announced will only consist of experts in that format. A break from the T20 format may also be given to some players, including Virat Kohli.

The decision regarding captaincy will also increase the importance of the Sri Lanka series team selection. Most likely, a new captain for the Indian team needs to be appointed formally as well. It’s expected that Hardik Pandya will succeed Rohit Sharma.

The process to find new selectors has taken a little longer than anticipated. Despite the fact that the entire committee, led by Chetan, was fired for its failure to perform after the Indian team’s elimination from the T20 World Cup semi-final.

“Chetan and his committee are still watching domestic cricket. They watched the full Vijay Hazare Trophy and also the first two rounds of Ranji Trophy. Debasish Mohanty was present at Eden Gardens to watch Bengal vs Himachal Pradesh. Basically, they got a two-month extension till December 25,” the official said.

Chetan and Harvinder Singh, a work colleague in the central zone, as well as Venkatesh Prasad, Nayan Mongia, Maninder Singh, Atul Wassan, Nikhil Chopra, Amay Khurasiya, Gyanendra Pandey, and Mukund Parmar, to name a few, have reapplied for the selectors’ positions.
