Kolkata Knight Riders have hip hopes from the World Cup-winning captain of the Australian side Aaron Finch but he failed so far in the ongoing IPL 2022.
After England opener Alex Hales pulled out of the IPL 2022 at the last minute due to bubble fatigue, the Kolkata Knight Riders added Aaron Finch as a replacement. Though, in his four appearances, he only managed to score 72 runs at an average of just 18.
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra while speaking about Finch’s lackluster performance in the world’s richest T20 competition this season has alleged that the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener has been batting with his ego.
“Aaron Finch is batting with ego. Hence, he is looking to take on the incoming ball, which is troubling him a lot. A World Cup-winning captain can do better than that. When these teams played last time, Finch had scored runs. He struggles against the incoming ball. RR have Boult, but his form isn’t all that great at the moment,” Chopra said.
Meanwhile, Aaron Finch, who has personally examined his performance in the IPL 2022, has stated that it has been hit or miss thus far.
“My game has been a hit and a miss so far. I am focusing on trying to hit straight and stay on a bit longer. I work with David Hussey, and Brendon McCullum and get honest feedback. T20 is a brutal game for batters and bowlers and you have to be honest with yourself to be successful,” said Aaron Finch while speaking on Star Sports.
Finch has batted at a strike rate of 153.19 for the Knight Riders this season, with the best score of 58 in IPL 2022. The Australian white-ball captain is the team’s eighth highest run-getter. In nine games this season, KKR captain Iyer has scored the most runs (324) for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kolkata Knight Riders won their last game and are currently in seventh place on the points table.
