Tamim Iqbal, the captain of Bangladesh in ODI matches, has announced his retirement from T20I

Tamim Iqbal, a seasoned Bangladeshi batter who has played in T20 competitions for over 15 years, made the decision to call it quits on Sunday. After Bangladesh’s impressive 3-0 series sweep of the West Indies in one-day internationals, the 33-year-old made the news on Facebook.

Tamim Iqbal announces his retirement from T20I:

Tamim said on his Facebook page that he was “considering retiring from T-20 international as of today.”

Tamim made the news immediately after Bangladesh defeated West Indies 3-0 in the series by defeating the Men in Maroon in Guyana’s last ODI by a margin of four wickets. With 117 runs scored in 3 innings and an average of 58.50, the seasoned hitter won the “Player of the Series Award.”

The opening batter was congratulated by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on receiving the “Player of the Series” title in a photo post released on its official Twitter account.

The caption of the post said, “Congratulations to Tamim Iqbal winning the Player of the Series!

Tamim is the only batter from Bangladesh to have recorded a century in T20Is. Against Oman, he accomplished an outstanding achievement at the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. He finished his T20I career as the third-highest run-scorer for his nation in the format, behind Test captain Shakib Al Hasan and current skipper Mahmudullah Riyad.

In ODIs and Test matches, the left-handed hitter will still play for the Bangladesh Cricket Team. In the 50-over format, he is just 57 runs away from being the first hitter from his nation to reach 8000 runs. He presently has more than 14000 international runs, 25 centuries, and 91 half centuries to his name.

On January 27, Iqbal, a prominent Bangladeshi opener, announced a six-month suspension from T20Is. He did participate in a domestic T20 event during this time, though. He had stated that he would not be thinking about the game’s shortest format and that his attention will be on Tests and ODIs.

In his 78 T20 International games during the course of his career, Tamim Iqbal amassed 1758 runs at an average of 24.08 and a strike rate of 117.2. He ended as Bangladesh’s third-highest run-getter in this format and is still the lone century from Bangladesh in the T20I format.
