Shakib al Hasan shatter Indian batting order with a five-wicket haul

IND vs BAN: Shakib al Hasan’s Five-Wicket Haul

IND vs BAN: First spinner from Bangladesh to upset India in ODIs with a five-wicket haul

After losing the toss and being put into bat on a good batting surface at home. India’s ODI World Cup preparations got off to a shaky start. In just 41.2 overs, Shakib (5/36) and Ebadot Hossain (4/47) held the illustrious Indian batting order to a subpar total of 186.

In the opening game of the series in Dhaka on Sunday, Shakib al Hasan systematically dismantled India’s batting order to become the first spinner from Bangladesh to take five wickets against India in ODIs. Shakib also took five wickets against India, becoming just the 8th spinner in ODI history to do so.

The innings started to be rebuilt by Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. But they were again set back when the former was removed following a 43-run partnership. Washington Sundar supported KL Rahul as they added 60 runs together, but when the all-rounder was dismissed, the visitors lost 4 wickets for 4 runs.

The 35-year-old Shakib turned the tables twice in the Indian innings with his fourth ODI five-wicket haul after being added to the attack immediately following the opening powerplay.

IND vs BAN: Indian Innings

India made a poor choice of shots. There were several mild dismissals as well as two out to reverse sweeps. Shreyas managed to get his eye in but was thrown out.

Washi was prepared, yet he wasted it. KL fought alone, holding one end and then picking up speed later to give himself some credibility. Presently, Bangladesh is in its favour.
