Where do they stand currently?

While Kolkata Knight Riders who unfortunately started their IPL with a loss against RCB in the season opener, but eventually gained back the win in their match against Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand Mumbai Indians, who lost their campaign opener against CSK, continued their losing streak against Gujarat Titans. MI currently sit at the ninth spot of the points table, while KKR are positioned at the sixth spot. 

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya is feeling the heat, with Mumbai’s distorted performances last season and currently the underwhelming start to their IPL 2025, MI has a tough task on their head. KKR with their new captain Ajinkya Rahane, still needs time to find the balance in their squad, to tackle the competition to stay in contention for the playoff spot. 

Injury Updates for MI and KKR

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene provided an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery from a lower back injury. Although Bumrah is progressing well in rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, no timeline for his return has been set. He is expected to join the squad in April. In Bumrah’s absence, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar have been leading the pace attack. Jayawardene also addressed Mumbai fans’ past reactions to Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, expressing confidence that fans will move past last year’s issues.

Kolkata Knight Riders allrounder Sunil Narine is fully fit ahead of their IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. After missing the previous game due to illness, Narine resumed training on Saturday and bowled in the nets with Varun Chakravarthy. Head coach Chandrakant Pandit confirmed Narine’s recovery, stating he is “100% fit.” Narine had been replaced by Moeen Ali in KKR’s win over Rajasthan Royals, with Ali contributing significantly with the ball. Narine had performed well in the season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore, scoring 44 off 26 balls and taking 1/27.
