The former Indian captain has displayed exceptional batsmanship, setting and breaking numerous records and earned the tag ‘king’.

However, having rough days is a critical part of being a sportsman, and Kohli experienced some of these days as well.

Virat Kohli battled for a century across formats throughout that awful 1028-day period, and his declining form ultimately led to him taking a month-long break.

One of those fervent believers, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, predicted that once Kohli is able to free himself from the chains, there will be no stopping him. The run-machine Kohli has already struck four hundreds after breaking his century drought in T20Is last September, three of which came in ODIs and two at the start of 2023, both against Sri Lanka.

Kohli smashed 2 centuries in 3 innings

Kohli, who struck a hundred in the first ODI to get 2023 off to a good start, was at his magnificent best as he put on a show for the spectators In Thiruvananthapuram.

After India got off to a strong start with a 95-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, the star batter entered the game. The youthful Gill overtook Kohli as the opener reached his second ODI century, taking center stage.

When Gill was dismissed for 116, Kohli changed tack and attacked the Sri Lankan bowling, scoring some magnificent runs. Kohli, the outstanding player, eclipsed Mahela Jayewardene’s ODI total. And now ranks among the top five scorers in ODI cricket history.

Kohli reached his century in just 85 balls, giving India complete command of the game. And later smashed another 66 in just 25 to remain unbeaten on 166 in 110 deliveries and helped India post a mammoth 390 in 50 overs.

Before most international, Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s twin century records

With the century, Kohli surpassed Sachin in the list of most tonnes against one opponent and shattered his own record for the feat. The former captain of India is now the only player in history to make 10 century against Sri Lanka in ODI matches. Sachin and he both have nine tonnes each against the West Indies and Australia, respectively. Additionally, he surpassed Sachin’s mark for the most home centuries. This was Kohli’s 21st such hit in 101 innings for India.

Virat Kohli plays MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot

During his brilliant innings, Kohli blasted a helicopter shot like MS Dhoni for a six and shouted “Mahi Shot” to partner Shreyas Iyer at the other end while pumping his fist. A Twitter user uploaded the incredible hit’s viral videos along with the caption, “He (Kohli) said “Mahi Shot” in the end.”

Virat Kohli may break Sachin Tendulkar’s most century’s record

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar had backed that Kohli would surpass the milestone of 100 hundreds in international cricket after Virat Kohli scored his 46th ODI century on Sunday.

Even though Kohli struck his 46th ODI century, the Indian batsman still has 74 lifetime international hundreds and is three short of Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. However, the legendary player Sunil Gavaskar thinks Kohli can add another 26 centuries to his tally and achieve 100 hundreds in the next five to six years.
