David Warner said that he has been passing on his views to assist Aaron Finch to recover his form. After he put up a brilliant, undefeated 134-run stand with him. In the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, June 7, Warner and Finch both struck undefeated half-centuries as they cruised to victory.
Following the game, Warner said that he had been in touch with Finch throughout the Indian Premier League as well. He also mentioned that he had offered him a technical tip on how to counter the shifting ball.
“I just said to him not to walk out into the ball, let the ball actually do its work in the air. And if they want to bowl nice and full and you stay still and keep that leg stump line, you’re going to get full contact with the ball, and if it swings late, it’s going to go down the leg,” Warner expressed his thoughts.
Early in the innings, Finch has a history of being caught out by the shifting ball, particularly the incoming delivery. “He was perhaps moving a little too much; he was walking directly towards the line of the ball and was still moving when the ball was delivered, and as a hitter, you don’t want to do that unless you’re genuinely charging.
“Finchy likes to keep things simple by not moving too much about the crease. We saw it tonight; he hit some good shots, he timed the ball nicely, and he’s at his best when he’s nice and calm. “You could just see the energy was a lot different with him running between wickets and he was up and about, and it was great to see,” Warner added.
He further continued by saying, “He looked to hit everything down the ground when the ball was in his area, he hit his slog sweeps, which he is very good at, and you could just see the energy was a lot different with him running between wickets and he was up and about, and it was great to see.”
After a successful stand, Warner gives Finch some advice.
