Dwaine Pretorius ruled out of ongoing ODI series against India and T20 World Cup due to injury

South Africa faced a big blow ahead of the marquee event as South Africa All-Rounder Pretorius has been ruled out of the ongoing One-day series against India and the upcoming World Cup because of a fracture on his left thumb.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the same ahead of the first one-day international against the men in blue on Thursday.

“All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against India and the proceeding ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a fracture of his left thumb,” tweeted the official handle of CSA.

“The nature of the injury requires surgical intervention and Dwaine will consult the Cricket South Africa designated hand surgeon on arrival in South Africa. Normal rehabilitation procedures will follow to ensure he speedily returns to playing cricket,” explained, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shuaib Manjra.

Marco Jansen to replace South Africa All-Rounder Dwaine Pretorius 

Marco Jansen will replace the injured Pretorius replacement for the ongoing ODI series against India. While CSA will announce his replacement for T20 World Cup 2022 in the coming days.

The Proteas team is currently in India for the three-match T20I series and the same number of ODI games. They already lost the T20I series by 2-1. While they play 3 ODIs on October 6, which is underway in Lucknow. The second ODI will take place on October 9. And the third will take place on October 11.

IND vs SA, 1st ODI 

Talking about the 1st ODI, India after winning the toss elected to bowl first, and the bowlers provided the same start that they wanted. Shardul Thakur first removed Janneman Malan for 22, then he bowled out Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma for 8. While Aiden Markram went for a duck as he failed to read Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery.

At the time of writing this, South Africa is at 92 for 3 in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen are the crease.

After this series the Proteas team will travel to Australia for the mega event, starting October 16.

Temba Bavuma is all set to lead the side in the marquee event, with Tristan Stubbs receiving his maiden call-up for the World Cup. The experienced campaigner David Miller is there to strengthen the middle order. While Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj will lead the bowling department for the side.

South Africa is in Group B alongside India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. While two more teams will join the group after the qualifiers.

The Proteas will start their T20 World Cup campaign against the second qualifier of Group A. The game will take place on October 24 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
