Pakistan beat England by 6 runs in another last-over thriller

PAK Vs ENG T20I highlights: Another final-over thriller between Pakistan and England ended in Pakistan’s favour as the hosts defeated the English side by 6 runs in the fifth T20I at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday.

The game was on par with the majority of the matches in this series, where the winner was confirmed only in the last over of the game.

Pakistan after posted a decent 145 on board managed to restrict the visitors to take a 3-2 lead in the seven match T20I series.

PAK Vs ENG 5th T20I match highlights

England after winning the toss opted to bowl, and their bolwers somehow proved their decision right by removing couple of important players inside the powerplay, including Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam.

The highest-run scorer of the series was there for the team, but other batters showed no signs of adding some runs on board or atleast play an anchor role alongside Rizwan.

As a result, the hosts kept on losing wickets in intervals that put more pressure on the wicket-keeper batter, but he didn’t lost their calm and continued to guide his side to a respectable score.

At the time he leaved the crease, he already set the tone for Pakistan. During the fourth ball of the 18th over Rizwan tried to clear the ropes and he hits clean though, but didn’t get the elevation and caught by Adil Rashid at fine leg.

He played a knock of 63 off just 46 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes.

He was the only saviour for the men in green on Wednesday night, as apart from him, Iftikhar Ahmed scored the second-highest 15. While 11 runs from extras as Pakistan were bowled out for 145 in 19 overs.

Mark Wood playing his second game of the series again bagged three wickets. David Willey and Sam Curran both settled for 2 each. Chris Woakes took one.

England to chase 146 in 20 overs

In reply, England lost both of their openers early in the chase before Dawid Malan tried to bring his side back into the game. Malan scored 36, while Duckett and Brook failed to help their team this time and got out early.

England were struggling at 62 for 5, then the skipper Moeen Ali took charge and did small partnerships with Sam Curran (17) and Chris Woakes (9) to take the game into a yet again final-over thriller.

The visitors needed 15 off the last over, with the bowl was in hand of the debutant Aamer Jamal.

The good part was Ali was on strike but Jamal bowled two wide outside offs to beat the skipper and recorded 2 dots. The third one was a wide, while Ali smashed a six over long to complete his fifty and brought the equation to 8 off the last 3 balls.

Jamal didn’t lose calm and bowled a yet another Yorker outside off to beat the captain again. Ali then managed only single on the second last ball and Willey didn’t hit any on the final as Pakistan won the game by 6 runs to take a 3-2 lead in the series.
