T20 series between Pakistan and West Indies moved to 2024

PAK vs WI T20 series 2023

The T20 series between Pakistan and the visiting West Indies has been moved from January 2023 to 2024 as a result of a hectic domestic season. Here in the article, we have discussed PAK vs WI T20 series 2023 in detail.

The three-match T20I series, which was slated to take place in Pakistan in January 2023, has been postponed, the PCB announced after speaking with Cricket West Indies. Now, the first quarter of 2024 will be used to play out the series.

“The decision has been made considering 2024 is an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup year, with the event due to be hosted in the West Indies and USA in June 2024, and the shortest format matches will, therefore, help both the sides to prepare for the tournament,” a spokesperson said.

The three-match series is not a part of the recently unveiled ICC Future Tours Programme for the years 2023–2027.

Earlier this year, the West Indies visited Pakistan for a pair of ODI and T20 series. However, after the 50-over matches were finished, the visitors reported multiple cases of Covid-19 in their camp. As a result, both boards decided to postpone the T20 series and hold it in early 2023.

In June 2024, the T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States.

Pakistan’s preparation for T20 World Cup 2022

The Babar Azam-led after failing to beat Sri Lanka in the finals last month locked horns with England at home for the 7-match T20 series.

The high-voltage series saw both teams tried their best to overcome against each other and after the end of 6 games, the winner of the series still wasn’t decided, as it was stood at 3-3 level.

England, however, emerged victorious in the final game and claim the series by 4-3.

Pakistan then played a tri-series against New Zealand and Bangladesh in New Zealand. The series was a part of preparation for the T20 World Cup. The men in green not just reached final in that series, but also won it by defeating the hosts.

The second T20 World Cup champions Pakistan is in group 2 with India, South Africa and Bangladesh with two other qualifying teams.

They will start their campaign on October 23 against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

West Indies preparation for the T20 World Cup

The Caribbean side, who failed to directly qualify for the Super 12 stage, reached Australia some days prior before the start of the tournament to take part in 2-match T20I series against Australia first, which they lost by 2-0.

West Indies started their qualifiers campaign on a bad note too. They faced defeat from Scotland in their opening game on Monday.

However, they bounced back and defeated Zimbabwe in their second game to remain in Super 12 contention.

They will next play against Ireland on Friday at Hobart. The match will be crucial for them to secure their place for the Super 12 phase of the tournament.
