MS Dhoni’s curve bat a hit with Indian players

T20 cricket has significantly altered several aspects of the way the game is played.

MS Dhoni news: Despite the rapid evolution of tactics, techniques, and deliveries, certain Indian players are refining the design of their bats.

One can see distinct curves at the bottom of the bats used. In particular by Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant. The change, which was MS Dhoni’s idea, is made to help power-hitting.

According to TOI, Pandya and Panth’s guru Dhoni suggested they use round-bottomed bats to improve their T20 performance.

“Before the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni was the one who initially started utilizing this type of bat. And lately, these Indian athletes have started requesting this type of bat. According to Paras Anand, managing director of renowned sports equipment maker Sanspareils Greenlands (SG)

It’s challenging to grasp the subtleties of the concept. Particularly in this day and age when players have access to a variety of range-hitting workouts.

These bats are specifically for shorter formats. The players contend that it facilitates their ability to access the entire ground when making shots. A bat with a flat bottom forces players to adopt a more closed stance. But a bat with a round bottom allows players to adopt a more open stance. Which makes it easier for players to control the bat right away.

The bat has a thicker base and more meat at the bottom  and made circular.

Perhaps a meatier bottom explains why counter deliveries are thrown into the block hole. It is also known that players that use these bats claim the pick-up and swing of the bat. They are considerably smoother because it resembles a baseball bat.

Since the second IPL leg in the UAE in 2021, Pandya had struggled to start strong in the T20 format. Which resulted in a lackluster performance in the 2019 T20 World Cup. Pandya was out of the Indian team for four months before making an outstanding comeback. While captaining the Gujarat Giants to victory in the IPL in April and May of this year.

Along with improving his ability to bowl at full force during the break. He also worked on the shape of his bat again.

According to TOI, Pant, who has recently failed to maintain his momentum in T20s, spoke with Dhoni following the IPL.

“Dhoni advised him to try the bat with a circular bottom. He is gradually adjusting to it. His bat’s curvature is not yet as obvious. But he can detect certain differences, according to a source.
