Shoaib Malik, on Sunday, December 18, was hit on the helmet by a vicious bouncer from Wahab Riaz during the match between Jaffna Kings and Galle Gladiators in Match No. 17 of the Lanka Premier League LPL 2022.

Malik entered the batting order at No. 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo after the Kings decides to go first. Sadeera Samarwickrama was well-positioned when Riaz dismissed him and Malik then entered the crease. Wahab greeted his former Pakistani teammate with a bouncer right away.

Malik attempted a pull shot but was cut on the top of his helmet. The neck guard, which was the additional layer of safety on the rear of the helmet, fell on the stumps and knocked the bails loose. Malik appeared to be in some type of agony after the punch.

Wahab also approached the Kings’ batter to inquire about his health. He spoke with Malik, who went outside to look for a golden duck.

Wahab Riaz’s brutal Bouncer: The 40-year-old Malik also became the first batter ever to be dismissed hit-wicket three times in T20 cricket. 

In the meantime, Riaz defeated the Kings with a final score of 4-0-37-3. Wahab gave up only seven runs in his first two overs, but in his third, Thisara Perera and Afif Hossain Dhrubo scored easily, and Wahab was bowled out for 16 runs.

Wahab eliminated Perera in his final over but conceded 14 runs in the process. Before Riaz had the final laugh, Perera hit two fours in the 18th over.

The Kings eventually scored a respectable 170 runs in 20 overs while losing only eight wickets. Afif Hossain led them in scoring with a 54-run performance in 35 balls.

Jaffna Kings won by 8 Wickets

The Jaffna Kings scored a crushing victory after keeping Colombo to 128 and chasing it down with more than four overs remaining. Gurbaz played a fantastic innings in the chase, scoring 69 off just 40 balls. On a pitch where the ball didn’t seem to be coming on, the lone batsman from both teams dominated the bowling. It became a cruise for the Kings after his knock at the top. The Jaffna Kings Won the Match by 8 wickets.
