The fact that vice-captain KL Rahul is ready for the England visit is a huge relief for Team India. With a groin injury, he was ruled out of the South Africa series, and speculation began as to whether he would be fit for the England tour.
Rahul has entered the NCA rehab centre and is now “recovering well.” He will travel to England alongside Rahul Dravid and others on June 19th. A member of the selection committee told InsideSport that His injury is not as bad as it might seem.
He has started rehabilitation at the NCA and as per the physiotherapist, he can be fit within two weeks before the warm-up match.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will arrange a special flight to England for Team India head coach Rahul Dravid, wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer for the ENG vs IND 5th rescheduled Test.
The trio will arrive a few days later than the rest of the squad due to their participation in a 5-match T20I series against South Africa.
The Indian squad, captained by Rohit Sharma, will leave India on June 16, while Dravid, Pant, and Iyer will leave on June 19. After playing in the fifth and final T20I against South Africa on June 19, the three will go to England on a chartered flight from Bengaluru.
India, for example, will be touring England for an all-format series beginning July 1. A few practice games will be played as well. The BCCI Selection Committee has named a formidable lineup for the ENG versus IND fifth rescheduled Test (which was postponed owing to COVID-19 instances in the Indian camp last year), which India leads 2-1.
The team for three T20Is and as many ODIs, on the other hand, is still to be chosen.
India’s Test team for the upcoming match against England is as follows:
Rohit Sharma (Capt), KL Rahul (VC), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), R Jadeja, R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.
KL Rahul is ‘recovering well’ at NCA and will travel with Rahul Dravid for the England trip on June 19
