Star All-rounder Washington Sundar
Today marks the 23rd birthday of Team India all-arounder Washington Sundar. Sundar made his international debut in 2017 against Sri Lanka in an ODI. Sundar was a key member of the Indian team that earlier this year defeated Australia in a historic Test series. In addition to 30 T20Is, he has played in one ODI and four Tests for India.
Early Life
On October 5, 1999, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Washington Sundar was born into a Tamil Hindu household. His father, M. Sundar, gave him the name in honor of P.D. Washington, who had financed the elder Sundar’s love of cricket. Shailaja Sundar, his sister, plays cricket professionally as well. He began playing cricket when he was four or five years old. He attended St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School for his early education.
Career start
After being included in India’s squad for the Under-19 World Cup in 2016, Sundar, who began his career as a batsman before being known for his off-spin, grabbed all the attention.
He played in his first Indian Premier League (IPL) game the following year for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) side. He was outstanding all season long as RPS advanced to the IPL 2017 championship game but fell to Mumbai Indians.
Sundar, a left-handed top-order batsman who also bowls off-spin, made his first-class debut in an unassuming manner after doing well for India in the Under-19 World Cup, which was held in Bangladesh. India eventually finished in second place after falling to West Indies in the title game.

On December 13 against Sri Lanka, he made his ODI debut for India. He clean bowled Lahiru Thirimanne for his first wicket in international cricket. On December 24, 2017, Sundar then made his India T20I debut against Sri Lanka. He was the youngest player to make his India T20I debut at the age of 18 years and 80 days.
Sundar’s Style of play
Sundar, a left-handed top-order batsman who can bowl off-spin, had a rather quiet first-class debut after an impressive showing for India in the Under-19 World Cup, which was contested in Bangladesh. India finally lost to West Indies in the title game and finished in second place.
