Happy Birthday Shardul Thakur

Indian Bowler Shardul Thakur turns 31 today

Mumbai Based Indian Medium Pacer

Born on October 16, 1991, Shardul Narendra Thakur, better known by his stage name Shardul Thakur, is a cricketer for India. He bowls at a medium pace. He represents Mumbai in first-class cricket.

Thakur is from Palghar, 87 kilometres north of Mumbai, and spent his early cricketing years carrying his kitbag into the city on early-morning trains. In his first season, 2012–2013, Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy, but he had little to do with it he took just four wickets in four games, at an average of 82, and did not contribute significantly to the victory.

Domestic Career

He made his First-class debut for Mumbai against Rajasthan in Jaipur in the 2012–13 Ranji Trophy in November 2012. With four wickets at an 82.0 bowling average in his first four games, he had a poor start to his career. He had one five-wicket haul and grabbed 27 wickets at a strike rate of 26.25 in six games during the 2013–14 Ranji season.

He had five five-wicket hauls and 48 wickets at 20.81 in the 2014–15 Ranji season. For Mumbai in the 2013–14 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he made his List A debut on February 27, 2014.  He assisted Mumbai in capturing its 41st Ranji Trophy championship in the 2015–16 season by taking eight wickets off Saurashtra.

First Test call up

His major break came in 2016 when he was selected for the Indian Test squad for the tour of the Caribbean islands, after a protracted wait. The coveted Test cap, which he still lacks, was not awarded to him at the time. However, he did earn a spot on the fringes of the team and got to bowl in the nets at some of the top batsmen in the world. His bowling has also clearly improved since then.

Top Performances

  • 7/61 vs South Africa in 2022
  • 4/27 vs Sri Lanka in 2018
  • 4/36 vs Punjab Kings in 2022
  • Scored 67 runs vs Australia in 2021
  • Scored 60 runs vs England in 2021

What’s On Hold For The Future

Although his underwhelming IPL career demonstrated that his bowling technique may not be the greatest for T20 cricket, he is the kind of asset India would want in off-white apparel in the near future. The hard work that Shardul has put into his career and success is evident. And after a great start to his limited-overs international career. He appears to be a prospect to watch out for in the future.

Birthday Wishes

Happy birthday and best wishes for a great day to Shardul Thakur. Let’s wish him the best and success in the future.
