Game Changer: 221 Runs fourth wicket partnership guide New Zealand to go past India

Match-Winning Partnership from Tom Latham and Kane Williamson

Second Highest Fourth Wicket Partnership for New Zealand

IND vs NZ Final: Multiple records were shattered in the opening ODI of the three-match series. After the Kiwi pair of Latham and Williamson pounded the Indian bowlers for a 221-run partnership.

The left-hander was still unbeaten when New Zealand made a mockery of the chase by carrying his bat all the way through and scored 94 runs. Latham scored a career-high 145 while Kane Williamson scored 94 as part of an unbroken partnership of 221, helping New Zealand defeat India by seven wickets.

When trying to reach the target, New Zealand got off to a quick start with openers Devon Conway and Finn Allen scoring boundaries right away. Arshdeep Singh, who made his cricket debut for India’s T20 team, led the team out of the gate for India. However, the left-arm pacer was undone by the Kiwi openers, who scored 25 runs in his first three overs, failing to match his T20I heroics.

Tom Latham’s Match-Winning Innings

At first, Williamson was the senior partner and Latham played a loyal support role. But nearing the 40th over that hierarchy changed and Latham sprinted ahead of his captain. He struck 23 runs from the 40th over bowled by Shardul Thakur to go from 77 to a century his seventh in one-day internationals from 76 balls.

Kane Williamson Captain’s Innings

Despite making 61 of New Zealand’s 126 runs in the second game. Williamson had not been in his finest form at the T20 World Cup in Australia earlier this month or in the rain-shortened T20 series that India just won 1-0.

The captain set out right away to give the Black Caps’ shaky innings stability. Williamson was playing in only his eighth ODI since the 2019 World Cup final. When Latham arrived at the crease and demonstrated a similar level of commitment, which seemed to re-energize Williamson.
