Former England allrounder Luke Wright has been appointed as the new England Men’s selector

New England Men’s Selector

Luke Wright, a former all-rounder for Sussex and England, has announced his retirement.

After announcing his retirement Luke Wright now has been named new England Men’s Selector, joining the committee in charge of choosing the men’s national teams. Wright will share selection duties with coaches and captains of the red and white ball teams, contributing to all England men’s squads and team selections, from senior teams to Lions and Young Lions.

Wright competed in 51 T20Is and 50 ODIs for England in white-ball cricket, totalling 101 appearances. With the highest score of 99 not out against Afghanistan in Colombo in 2012. He played in each of the first four World T20 competitions after making his debut in England’s inaugural World T20 match against Zimbabwe in Cape Town in 2007.

Luke’s New Responsibilities

As soon as he takes the position, he will be in charge of overseeing all domestic cricket during the summer. He would be participating in decisions regarding Central Contracts and collaborating closely with Bobat, Court, and the scouting network on talent spotting. He will also collaborate on player availability and scheduling with the ECB science and medicine team.

Managing Director’s Comments

“Off the back of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup win and a successful summer for our men’s Test team, England Men’s Cricket Managing Director Rob Key said, “I’m delighted that Luke will be joining as England Selector.”

“With his significant experience of playing in England and overseas as well as his in-depth knowledge of county cricket. He will be an important voice in squad selection while also helping to identify the next generation of England stars. It’s an exciting time for England men’s cricket. But with the Ashes and the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup next year there is a lot of hard work ahead if we are to build upon what has been an exciting year.” (Source – ECB)
