England squad for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: Full players list and team news

U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named their team for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, which will be held in South Africa from January 14 to January 29 and include 16 participating nations.

From January 15 to 19, England will compete in group B matches against Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and Rwanda. The top three teams in each group will advance to the Super Six stage.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Sophia Smale, who this year won the Hundred with Oval Invincibles, are part of the team. Grace Scrivens (London Spirit) and Hannah Baker (Welsh Fire) also competed in the competition.

The five non-traveling reserves have also been there in addition to the main squad. Although they won’t be travelling, the reserves will participate fully in the preparation period and serve as backup players if necessary.

The chairman of England’s women’s pathways, Richard Bedbrook, presided over the selection committee.

Additionally, Chris Guest of the Lightning has been named head coach after an open hiring procedure, according to the ECB. Laura Marsh and Darren Franklin will assist him.

What the chairman of England Women’s Pathways said about the squad?

“It’s hugely exciting to name this squad and to think ahead to the opportunity that awaits the players. They’re a tremendous group of young cricketers with great potential at the beginning of their journeys in the game. They’ll all benefit hugely from this experience — on and off the field,” said Bedbrook.

“It’s important to compete in this age group. And it’s equally important to continue the process of learning what it takes to progress to the next level. I’m sure we’ll take a lot away from the tournament.

“We have the ambition for the next few months to be a significant life moment for all the players and ensure they use it as a springboard towards making an impact in senior regional cricket, and hopefully beyond in years to come,” he said.

Bedbrook also stated that the Women’s T20 Word Cup of U-19 players will give a great platform for the young players around the world.

“The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will provide an exciting platform for the best young players around the world and it will be really exciting to see our players compete against their peers in a global event,” he added

England will play their first game against Zimbabwe on January 15. Followed by on January 19 against Pakistan and on January 19 against Rwanda.

Top three teams then from both side will compete from January 21 to 25. While the semi-finals will take place on January 27 and the final game on January 29.
