The first T20I of the three-match T20I series saw England’s women’s team dominate as they defeated India by 9 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the T20 series. To set up a thrilling victory for the hosts, Sarah Glenn took four wickets with the ball, Sophia Dunkley then scored an unbeaten 61 runs.

Following England’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss, Sarah Glenn completely dismantled the Indian batting order. Glenn finished with excellent figures of 4/23 and presented challenges for the Indian batters throughout her spell.

In twenty overs, the Indian team was restricted to 132 runs for seven wickets.

India had a lackluster day in all three departments as they simply failed to match the amplitude of the game. Deepti Sharma’s batting was the only bright spot for India as she scored 29 runs off 24 balls to lead India to a respectable total.

England won the first of the three T20Is despite India keeping a high run rate but losing wickets at regular intervals. By the time Ghosh was dismissed in the 12th over, India was 83 for 4. However, they were only able to score 49 runs in the following overs.

England got off to a good start with Dunkely surviving a caught behind thanks to a no-ball from Renuka Singh. Following that, the 24-year-old didn’t stop, playing a solid counterattacking knock to destroy the Indian side. She had eight fours and a six in her 64-run knock. Alice Capsey finished unbeaten on 32 runs from 20 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes.

Now with the loss in the first T20 India will look to bounce back in the second T20I to level the series. The Second T20I will be played on 13th September (Tuesday) in County Ground, Derby.
