David Warner’s 94 goes in vain as Zimbabwe beat Australia by three wickets

David Warner’s 94 Goes in Vain: A proud moment for the Zimbabwe cricket team as they beat the mighty Australian side by 3 wickets in the three-match ODI series.

After winning the toss Zimbabwe decided to bowl first. Batting first David Warner and Aaron Finch opened the innings for Australia.

Aaron Finch did not last long on the pitch as he was dismissed by Ngarava in the fourth over of the first innings, David Warner held his head up and was hitting big as he scored 94 runs from 96 balls, and Warner was just 6 runs away from scoring a century.

At one end Warner is scoring runs and on the other Australia was crumbling apart, only Warner and Maxwell scored two-digit runs rest all were destroyed by the Zimbabwe bowlers.

Ryan Burl with his amazing bowling picked up 5 wickets in his 3-over spell, Brad Evans picked up two important wickets from Alex Carey and Stoinis. This was an outstanding bowling performance from the Zimbabwe side, they destroyed the Australian batting line-up and restricted them to 141 runs in 31 overs, with the target of 141 it seemed like Zimbabwe would chase down the target easily but there was a twist in the tale as Australian bowlers gave a tough fight until to end but failed to win the match.

Zimbabwe opened their innings with T Kaitano and T Marumani, both of them at first looked like will fish off the match but soon both of them were dismissed and T Marumani had scored (35 of 47 balls). Zimbabwe Skipper Chakabva stood like a leader and was scoring runs left and right but on the other side Zimbabwe where losing wickets.

It felt like there is a twist in the tail as the Australian bowler’s bowled pretty well, Hazlewood pick up three wickets but the Zimbabwe skipper made sure that they win the man.

Even though the Zimbabwe side lost the series by 2-1, this is a historic day for the Zimbabwe cricket board and the fans as they fought until the end and won the third ODI in the Australian ground.

Ryan Burl was awarded the player of the match award for his amazing five-wicket haul helping Zimbabwe to restrict Australia to 141, and Adam Zampa won the Player of the series award.
