CAB Tribute to Pele: During the second One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka on Thursday at the Eden Gardens, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will honor the late renowned footballer Pele by playing clips of his artistic talent on massive screens. 

Pele visited the Eden Gardens on September 24, 1977, to take part in a match between the New York Cosmos Club and Mohun Bagan. That is how Pele is connected to West Bengal and its people.

Moreover, Bengal state is known for having a very passionate fan base for the sport of football in West Bengal. People here in Bengal are so much into football and the Cricket Association of Bengal is taking it into consideration and decided to give a tribute to the legend Pele.

Pele has inspired to many people not only in football but in other fields. So it was obvious that a state that is filled with football fans had decided to do something like this.

Other Events planned for the Event 

During the innings break, a laser show has also been planned, according to CAB joint secretary Debabrata Das. After former Indian captain and top-order batter Virat Kohli’s competent hundred in the inaugural ODI on Tuesday in Guwahati, the ticket demand, which had been modest, increased.

Pele Passes away at the age of 82 

Brazilian football star Pele passed away recently on December 29 at the age of 82. The three-time World Cup champion had been ill for more than a month and was being treated at the hospital. Since 2021, Pele had been receiving therapy for colon cancer.

Who is Pele?

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, well known by his nickname Pele was a Brazilian professional football player who played as a forward and was born on October 23, 1940, and died on December 29, 2022). 

He was among the most accomplished and well-known athletes of the 20th century. FIFA even named him “the greatest” player of all time. He was named the International Olympic Committee’s Athlete of the Century in 1999. And “Time” named him one of the 100 most influential individuals of the 20th century.

Special Guests who are Invited for the Second IND vs SL ODI 

They have also extended an invitation to the living members of the former Mohun Bagan team. The match will begin with the bell being rung by legendary former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara.
