Australia had reached 475/4 in the third session when the day was abruptly curtailed by rain. After Steve Smith scored his 30th Test century to surpass Don Bradman in the list, Travis Head was removed for 70.
AUS vs SA 3rd Test, Day 2 Highlights
It was a great day for Australia. Usman Khawaja, who is on 195, enjoyed every bit of the day at the SCG. But you might feel bad for him as he is still 5 runs behind of his double hundred.
Even though Australia hasn’t declared yet, you get the impression that this will likely be the last ball of their innings. On Day 3, he’ll pray for only one ball to bring him there.
David Warner is the only hitter who didn’t contributed, and Australia is in a strong position. Usman Khawaja was the cornerstone from the beginning. Together with Marnus Labuschagne, he first added more than 100.
Khawaja’s day at the SCG
Khawaja struck his 13th Test century in front of his wife and two young children to tie Damien Martyn and Bill Lawry on the all-time century’s list with 13 tons, adding a new chapter to his affection for the SCG.
Khawaja resumed his dominant streak at the SCG with his fourth century there in the NRMA Insurance series finale against South Africa.
The Southpaw scored his 13th Test century and third consecutive at the SCG on Thursday. When he blasted South African pacer Kagiso Rabada for two runs during the first session of the second day of the third Test against the Proteas.
Steve Smith crossed Don Bradman’s century’s feat
Steve Smith got out after scoring his 30th test hundred, surpassing Don Bradman’s 29 century record.
Travis Head then added 112 runs for the fourth wicket alongside Khawaja and remained aggressor in the innings, scored a valuable 70 runs.
Meanwhile, Matt Renshaw was unbeaten on 5.
Anrich Nortje took two wickets while Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada have bagged a wicket each for South Africa.
The tourists received very little support from the surface, but even their disciplined bowling failed to counteract the formidable Australians. Day 3’s weather does not appear to be very promising.
Australia is already 2-0 up in the series and is in strong position in the finale test. It will be interesting to see how the visitors will perform on the third day at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
