After Sri Lanka offered to host the 2023 Asia Cup, Pakistan declined the offer to play an ODI series there.

The claimed happenings over the future of the Asia Cup 2023 have strained relations between the cricket bodies of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The relationship between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reportedly been tense. As a result of the ongoing mystery surrounding the Asia Cup 2023.

After the BCCI announced that it will not send its squad to Pakistan for the continental event. SLC reportedly offered to host the entire Asia Cup. According to a report in the news agency PTI, the PCB has not received the idea well.

In preparation for this year’s ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in October and November. PCB has declined SLC’s offer to play an ODI series in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan team will compete in the world cup qualifications in Zimbabwe. The SLC is optimistic that their team will advance. The board therefore hoped to give their players additional exposure before the major tournament.

PCB source was quoted as saying by PTI on Saturday

“An example of the increasingly strained relations between the two boards emerged after the PCB turned down a proposal by the Lankans to play a few One-Day International matches next month in Sri Lanka,” .

“It is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event at home,” the source added.

Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB, is said to be dissatisfied with how the cricket governing bodies of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka have responded to his “hybrid model,” which called for India to play their Asia Cup games at a neutral site while other countries competed in Pakistan.

Sethi anticipated that Sri Lanka, with whom Pakistan has had friendly relations for a long time, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan would persuade the Indian Cricket Board and other board members of the Asian Cricket Council to support his proposal and play at least three to four games of the Asia Cup in Pakistan before moving the tournament elsewhere.

He is dissatisfied with how events have turned out recently, especially after some of these board members travelled to India for the IPL final and met with Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI.

According to the report, PCB is considering making a tough decision if BCCI does not modify its stance on the Asia Cup.
