If India is looking for Wicket-takers for the Asia Cup then Jadeja, Axar, and Ashwin are not the ones to rely on says Akash Chopra former Indian opener.
There has been a lot of mixed talk going on after the squad for the Asia Cup was announced where the absence of Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Shami was not included in the squad list.
Many questions are being raised by the people and the ex-players regarding the squad selection for the Asia Cup and this is always the case, whenever a squad is selected for any major tournament, people start questing the selection process.
Now we see that the former Indian opener is criticizing the selection of the Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
Akash in a recent statement states that “The second name on this list is interesting – Ravindra Jadeja. Jaddu will play, this both you and I know, but he will not give you too many wickets, be ready for that. The mirror does not lie.” “If we see his numbers, he has played seven matches since the T20 World Cup, picked up just four wickets, the average is above 43 and the economy is also close to 8.5 – it’s not great.”
Akash even went on to say that “Chahal’s name should’ve been in the last year’s T20 World Cup squad, but it wasn’t. You all were surprised and so was I. Rather, it was shocking for me. Following the exit before the knockouts, it was clear that playing Yuzi in the T20s is a must. He has taken 16 wickets in 13 games for India and averages 18.6; that means he’s very good,” “And in IPL, he has 27 wickets from 17 games, including a hat-trick that he had taken earlier this year. So, a genuine wicket-taker that India has, it’s Yuzi Chahal. When you play spinners, they have got a couple of roles – first, to be economical, if your fast bowlers are taking wickets. Second, if the pacers aren’t good wicket-takers, then you would want your spinners to control the middle overs and pick up wickets. And that spinner is Chahal.” (Source-news18)
“If India is looking for wicket-takers, then Jadeja, Axar, and Ashwin aren’t the players. It’s Yuzi, Kuldeep, and Bishnoi who can get you wickets.” Akash concluded regarding the selection process by this.
