Rohit Sharma’s future in ODIs: A look at 2027 World Cup chances

Rohit Sharma ODI Future: Will He Play in the 2027 World Cup?

Rohit Sharma has been a cornerstone of India’s ODI setup for over a decade. His leadership, experience, and batting prowess have played a crucial role in India’s success on the global stage. His ability to score big runs and provide stability at the top order makes him an invaluable asset to the team. So let’s know that Will Rohit Sharma play in 2027 World Cup!

India recently won the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy under Rohit, which was his second ICC title after securing the T20 World Cup nine months back. The victory propelled him to second on the list of Indian captains with most ICC titles. Only MS Dhoni is ahead of Rohit, who led India to record three ICC trophies.

Hitman, known for explosive starts and fearless approach while batting, announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, and had a dull Test season recently.

There were speculations whether Rohit will retire from the ODI cricket after the Champions Trophy, but Rohit has made it clear that he is not retiring from ODIs.

Will Rohit Sharma play in 2027 World Cup?

After leading India to their third Champions Trophy title, Sharma reaffirmed his commitment to the ODI format, keeping his fans hopeful about his participation in the 2027 World Cup.

Although the Indian skipper has not explicitly spoken about his plans for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, his recent performances and enthusiasm for the game suggest that he could very well be a part of the tournament.

At 40 years old in 2027, fitness and form will be crucial factors in determining his availability. However, given his consistency and ability to adapt, Sharma might still have a significant role to play. His 76-run leading from the front knock in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand is a testimony of his hunger to win the game.

The BCCI and team management will have to evaluate their future strategy, considering young talents emerging in Indian cricket. However, if Sharma maintains his fitness and continues to perform at a high level, there is no reason why he cannot lead or at least be a key player in the 2027 World Cup squad.

Cricket has seen legendary players extend their careers well into their late 30s and early 40s. Given Sharma’s passion and dedication to the sport, he could follow a similar path. Ultimately, the decision will rest on how well he manages his workload and remains fit over the next few years.

For now, fans can take solace in the fact that Rohit Sharma is not bidding farewell to ODIs anytime soon. Whether he will play in the 2027 World Cup remains uncertain, but if his hunger for runs and trophies persists, India could still have their captain leading the charge.
