Even after being named as skipper of India A for Australia tour, Gaikwad missed out from the senior men’s team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Interestingly, the senior team led by Rohit Sharma will faceoff Ruturaj Gaikwad’s India A in a 3-day warm-up game, starting November 15.
The selection committee has chosen an 18-member squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and three reserves. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will be Gaikwad’s deputy during India A vs Australia A games ahead of BGT, selected in India’s senior men’s team but not Gaikwad.

Why Ruturaj Gaikwad not selected for BGT 2024-25?
Ruturaj Gaikwad has everything confidence, skill and the ability to play against strong opponents and given his current form, fans were all but confident of Gaikwad’s inclusion in India’s squad for BGT, especially when he announced as India A’s skipper.
While the reason behind his non-selection is still unknown, fans label the exclusion as part of favoritism.

Even the former India selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth also seen not happy with the non-selection of Gaikwad and questioned the selection panel for leaving Ruturaj out of India’s squad for BGT 2024-25.
“Abhimanyu Easwaran’s performance has been brilliant. I’m not questioning that. But what are you doing with Ruturaj? Why aren’t they twirling around with him? What’s the plan? He keeps on hitting the opponents all day long, but then, when it comes to international cricket, you leave him behind,” said Srikkanth on his You Tube channel.
As Gaikwas has already been named India A captain, hence he was not considered for India’s T20I team for the 4-match series against South Africa, starting November 8.
