Top 5 Players Who Mumbai Indians Underutilized

Mumbai Indians are unarguably the most successful team in the IPL. They have won 5 IPL titles 2 more than the second-best. MI has produced champion players over the years. Their talent scouting team is second to none. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan have flourished in MI. But one can’t hide the fact that MI did underutilize a few key talents they had at their disposal over the years. Here are Top 5 Players whom Mumbai Indians Underutilized.

Let’s Look at 5 such players whom Mumbai Indians under-utilized:

5 Players whom Mumbai Indians Underutilized are

#5 Nicholas Pooran

MI had bagged the hard-hitting Nicholas Pooran in 2017. They hadn’t known what Pooran can bring to the table back then as they benched him for the entire season. They released him ahead of IPL 2018 auctions. Pooran is now one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball.

#4 Glenn Maxwell

MI bought Glenn Maxwell for a whopping $1 million in 2013 auctions. Maxwell is one of the most explosive T20 batsmen. He was brought in to add a different dimension to the side. But MI played him in just 3 matches that season. They let go of Maxwell ahead of the 2014 IPL auctions. The move seemed to be a disaster as Maxwell went on a rampage for Kings XI Punjab. He won the MVP that year.

#3 Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal is one of the more understated spinners in the IPL. He played a pivotal role for RR in 2018 and 2019. But not many are aware of the fact that Gopal was earlier part of MI. He played for them from 2014-2017. Gopal played just 6 games across 4 seasons. It shows how much MI had under-utilized him.

#2 Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn is one of the most dangerous T20 batsmen in the world. He played many destructive knocks in the IPL especially when he represented KKR. MI bought Lynn as a backup for Quinton de Kock in IPL 2020. Lynn has played just a single game for MI across 2 seasons. MI should ideally show more trust in a player like Lynn.

#1 Yuzvendra Chahal

RCB had built its core team around Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Yuzvendra Chahal in the last 7-8 years. He has been a key figure for RCB over the years. Chahal was earlier part of MI. He represented them from 2011-13. But Chahal played just a single game in 2013. Chahal went on to represent RCB from 2014. The rest as they say is history.
