Thomas William Maxwell Latham, famously known as Tom Latham in the Cricketing world was born in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand on 2 April 1992. Tom Latham is a left-hand wicketkeeper batter and a part of the New Zealand squad in all three formats of cricket. Tom is the vice-captain of the New Zealand Cricket Team in the Tests and the ODI format. He has also captained the national side in 2020. Latham has been a part of the New Zealand squad for past 6 years consecutively and developed himself as well as the team as a remarkable leader along with Kane Williamson.

Tom Latham started off playing cricket at a very early age of 5 years. Tom wanted to follow his father’s footsteps who was also a remarkable player for New Zealand in his days. He played exceptionally well in his schooling days and won a lot of matches for the team single handedly. He was also seen as a young gun for New Zealand.

In 2008, Tom Latham was selected in the Under-19 team of Canterbury and was eventually made captain of the side within the months.

Tom Latham was picked up in the squad of Canterbury in the Plunket Shield Trophy season 2010-11. On his maiden first-class match, Tom made 65 runs and helped his team in winning a low scoring match.

In 2010, Tom also played for Durham Second XI in England.

In 2016, Tom Latham was picked up by the Kent County Club for the English domestic season. In May, Tom Latham made his county debut against Glamorgan and smashed fifties in both innings of the match. However, he didn’t play complete season due to his national commitments and duties.

In 2012, Tom Latham made his International debut at the age of 19 years in an ODI match against Zimbabwe. Tom smashed quickfire 24 runs on his debut.

In July, Tom Latham made his T20I Debut in a 2 match series against West Indies. Tom smashed 15 and 19 runs in both matches he played.

Tom Latham has batted from Number 1 position to Number 9 position for the national side.

In the series against Bangladesh in 2012, Latham scored his maiden ODI half century scoring 86 runs in the match.

Two years after the limited overs debut, Tom Latham was picked in the New Zealand squad for the test series against India. His debut didn’t go down well. However, in the next series against West Indies, Latham played all the 3 tests and scored 288 runs in the series including 3 half centuries.

In the same year, he was promoted to be an opener in the Test squad and smashed his maiden Test century in the first match as opener.

In 2015, Tom Latham smashed his maiden ODI century that came against Zimbabwe and helped his team in winning the match.

In the first ever Day-night test match in the cricket history against Australia, Tom Latham scored a half century and achieved a mile stone of first player to score fifty runs in a Day-night test match.

In 2017, Tom Latham kept the gloves for New Zealand for the first time in an ODI series and took 5 catches in his first match.

In May 2017, Tom was appointed as the captain of the team for the series against Ireland and Bangladesh. Under the captaincy of Tom Latham, New Zealand won the tri-series.

In year 2018, Tom Latham smashed his highest individual score in the tests, smashing 264 runs in an innings against Sri Lanka.

In 2019, Tom Latham played his 150th match for the national side and also Captained New Zealand for the first time in the Tests.
