Matthew Scott Wade, popularly known as Matthew Wade was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on 26 December 1987. Matthew Wade is an Australian left-hand wicketkeeper batter who plays for the national side in all three formats of cricket. Matthew Wade is Australia’s first-choice wicketkeeper in limited-overs cricket and has also captained Australia in a few matches. Matthew Wade’s career has been full of ups and downs. He has been in and out of the team for a long time due to some inconsistent performances and tough competition for the slot of wicketkeeper in the Australian squad. In the domestic circuit, Matthew Wade plays for Tasmania.

Matthew Wade started off playing cricket at the early age of 6 years. At the early age of his life, Wade played football for Tasmania at the junior level and for also the vice-captain of the team. However, eventually his interest started to grow in cricket and he decided to pursue cricket as his career. Matthew Wade was diagnosed with Testicular cancer at the age of 16 years. However, it got cured after the chemotherapy. Matthew Wade is color blind and he had faced difficulties in the past on the field due to the color of the balls.

Matthew Wade was picked up in the Australian squad for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2006 and played all the matches for his team in the tournament.

In the same year, Matthew Wade made his List A debut playing for Tasmania in the Ford Ranger One Day Cup. It was the only match that Matthew Wade played for Tasmania in the season as team was having another wicketkeeper batter as Tim Paine in the squad.

In the next season, Matthew Wade moved to Victoria and played as a wicketkeeper batter. Within the months, Matthew Wade became the first-choice wicketkeeper for the team.

In Sheffield Shield Trophy season 2009/2010, Matthew Wade smashed his maiden first class century. Matthew Wade was the crucial member of the squad that won the tournament in the season. He scored 96 runs in the finals and helped his team in lifting the trophy.

Matthew Wade remained part of Victoria till 2016-17 and returned back to Tasmania in 2017.

In 2018, Matthew Wade was appointed as the captain of the Tasmania team.

In 2022, Matthew Wade was roped in by Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred.

Matthew Wade made his International Debut for Australia back in 2011 in a T20I match against South Africa on 13th October 2011. He was picked up as the wicket keeper batter. However, he didn’t get much chance in the match.

In February 2012, Matthew Wade made his ODI debut against Inia and scored 67 runs. He was awarded with Player of the match award foe his performance. Eventually, Matthew Wade became the first choice wicketkeeper for Australia in the ODI format.

In the same year, Matthew Wade made his Test debut on 7th April 2012 and scored his maiden century in International cricket in the third test of the series.

Due to some inconsistency and growth of Brad Haddin, Matthew Wade didn’t made a secure place in the Tests. However, he managed to maintain his

position in the ODI squad but lost his place in the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015.

Matthew Wade made his maiden ODI century in 2017 in a match against Pakistan and helped his team in a difficult position.

In the same series, Matthew Wade was appointed as the captain of Australia as Steve Smith got injured during the tour. Matthew Wade only captained for 1 match and was ruled out for rest of the matches to due an injury.

Matthew Wade was picked up in the squad of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as a replacement of Usman Khawaja.

In Ashes 2019, Matthew Wade made a remarkable comeback in the tests and scored 337 runs in the series including 2 centuries.

Matthew Wade was appointed as the captain of T20I side for the series against India and Bangladesh due to the injury of original captain Aaron Finch in 2021.
