Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah (born on 6 December 1993 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat) is a right-arm fast bowler who can bowl consistently at 140-145 kmph. Jasprit is often considered as India’s best fast bowler in recent times. He was the first Asian bowler to take 5 wicket haul in Australia, England, and South Africa in one calendar year. Bumrah’s unorthodox bowling action has caused trouble for almost all the batters in the world. He has been a crucial member of the Indian squad in all three formats. Jasprit Bumrah is the part of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League for many years.

Jasprit lost his father at a very young age of just 7. He had a passion for cricket from the early stages of his life. Somehow, he managed to convince his mother to enter cricket. At the age of 14, Bumrah started playing cricket as a bowler. With some good performance in his school days, he got selected for the Summer camp held by Gujarat Cricket Association. After performing magnificently in the camp, Jasprit makes his place in the Zonal camp of the National Cricket Academy.

In 2012-13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final against Punjab, Jasprit bowled a superb spell of 3/14 helping Gujarat in winning the title. He was awarded Man of the Match in the final.

Bumrah made his first-class debut for Gujarat in October 2013 playing against Vidarbha. He bagged 7 wickets in his debut match. Jasprit ended his maiden first-class season with the leading wicket-taker for his side. In 2014 he suffered a knee injury that held him from playing cricket for almost a year. He made a magnificent comeback in the next season of 2015-16 where he ended up as the second-highest wicket-taker for Gujarat in the Ranji trophy and highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah International Career

Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut in 2016 when he got selected in the Indian squad for a limited over against Australia. In his first T20I series he ended up taking the highest wickets by the bowler of either side. In the same year, he broke the record of most T20I wickets in a calendar year by taking 28 wickets.

In 2017 during the Sri Lanka tour, Jasprit picked up 15 wickets and made the record for most wickets by a pacer in a bilateral series.

In the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final, Bumrah bowled a no-ball that resulted in the wicket of Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman. Later Fakhar scored a century and India lost the final. Some days later in Jaipur, Traffic Police used the image of hoarding to aware people of crossing the line. The bowler showed displeasure for using his image in the hoarding.

Jasprit made his Test Debut on 5th January 2018 against South Africa in Cape Town. In the third test of the series, he took his first five-wicket haul.

On the tour of Australia in the same year, he took his career-best 6/33 in an innings and became the first Asian bowler to achieve the feat in Australia. He took 48 wickets in tests in 2018 most by any Indian bowler.

In 2019, he was selected in the Indian squad for World Cup where he ended up as the leading wicket-taker for India. He was named in the Team of the Tournament by ICC.

In August 2019 against West Indies, Bumrah became the third Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in tests.

Three years after his debut in tests, Jasprit played his first test in India against England in 2021 in Chennai.

Within the years Bumrah made a crucial place in the Indian squad in all the formats. He got selected for the 2021 T20I World Cup.

In 2022, he was named vice-captain of the team for the series against Sri Lanka at home. India won the series with 2-0 and Jasprit took his first five wicket-haul in tests in India.

Jasprit Bumrah was bought by Mumbai Indians ahead of the Indian Premier League in 2013. He made his IPL debut at the age of 19. Jasprit played his first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore and took 3 wickets in the match. He just played 2 matches in his debut season.

In 2014, Bumrah was again bought by Mumbai Indians. He just took 5 wickets in the 11 matches that he played. Mumbai believed in the bowler and never stopped giving him chances.
