IPL: 5 Unknown Players Of Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also one of the few that had the privilege to play in the playoffs every season they featured in. Captained by Indian former cricketer MS Dhoni, they have introduced some amazing talent into the Indian and foreign domestic circuit.

Even for the CSK team who get their brilliant strategies spot on, it is not possible to retain players who don’t fit into their plans despite the amazing talent they possess.
Here are 5 CSK players who were never remembered for their time with the yellow jersey;-

1.Arun Karthik

Arun Karthik is a right-handed batsman from Tamil Nadu. He has represented CSK in the first edition. He is predominantly known for his stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

When CSK picked him up for the draft, he did not appear in the first 3 seasons of the IPL. Later on, he moved to RCB for the 2011 edition.

The 22-year-old right-handed batsman shifted from Tamil Nadu to Kerala in the domestic circuit. After going there in 2013 and playing in six seasons, he moved to Pondicherry.

2. Hemang Badani

Badani, a former Indian cricketer, played for India in four test matches and 40 ODIs. In 2007, he signed up for the IPL. The left-handed batsman was picked in the 2010 draft by the CSK franchise. He remained on the sidelines and never got a chance to play. He is a handy fielder and technical batsman but his selection in the team never happened.

When he played for Tamil Nadu in first-class cricket, he scored 6,700 runs and remained as one of the top scorers for the state in the tournament. He retired from the game.

3. Akila Dananjaya

Akila Dananjaya is a former leg-spinner who currently plays for Sri Lanka. A couple of years ago, he had taken a six-wicket haul against India. He has been one of the mystery spinners for them. Dananjaya signed his IPL contract in 2013 at the age of 19. He represented Mumbai Indians in 2018.

In November 2018, during a test against England, his action was reported to the ICC, and he has eventually been banned from the bowling unit. The ban on him was lifted in 2019 February when he cleared all the required rounds.

4. Jason Holder

Holder, a West Indian all-rounder, had his first experience in the cash-rich league with the CSK franchise. He was until recently the West Indies captain. When Chennai Super Kings picked Jason Holderin 2013, he was just 19 years old. He was with the team for one season. Later, he represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 and 2015 and also played for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018.

Despite all his achievements as an international cricketer, Holder could never make it big in the IPL. Therefore, no one came forward to buy him in the 2019 IPL edition. He will be in the auction again for the 2020 edition but there are very few chances for him to find buyers.

5. Andrew Tye

Tye is a former Australian cricketer. He won the purple cap in the 2018 IPL edition while representing the King’s XI Punjab franchise. He also took a hat trick while representing Gujarat Lions in the 2017 edition.

Before that, he had signed with CSK in 2015. But he didn’t get a chance to play in any of the games. Tye has had some decent outings when he was released into the IPL auctions. In the current scenario, he is one of the best bowlers in the T20 circuit. He is an expert at slower deliveries and off cutters, which makes him an effective death bowler.
