India dominance in T20Is in 2024 – A Year of Unstoppable Performances
India’s dominance in the T20Is throughout 2024 was nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing a perfect blend of skill, consistency and team spirit. Let’s look at India dominance in T20Is in 2024.
From winning the T20 World Cup to clinching bilateral series, team India has completely ruled the shortest format of the game in 2024, winning 21 of 24 games this year, losing only two, while one was called off due to wet outfield.
Starting with a three-match home series against Afghanistan in January 2024, which the men in blue triumphed 3-0. Despite not playing any T20Is in the next five months, the Indian team then entered the T20 World Cup 2024 as favourites and won the premier tournament, ending a 17-year long T20 world cup drought.
World Cup Winning captain Rohit Sharma, veteran Virat Kohli, and ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, retired from the shortest format of the game after fulfilling the aim of winning the ICC title.
The young side then toured Zimbabwe in July under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, which India won 4-1. And a new era started with Sri Lanka tour when BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) appointed Suryakumar Yadav as India’s regular T20 captain in order to prepare the team for the World Cup 2026.
India’s new T20I team under Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav first assignment after becoming a full-time T20 skipper was against Sri Lanka in July with young brigade, which India won by 3-0. The men in blue then played a 3-match home series against Bangladesh, in which they set a record of their highest ever total in T20Is with 297 during the third match in Hyderabad.
India’s 2024 T20I campaign ended with a four-match series against South Africa. Despite playing in tough conditions and challenging surfaces, Surya’s young team won that series 4-1.
One of the standout aspects of India’s 2024 T20I campaign remained their exceptional depth in both batting and bowling. Emerging talents and experienced stalwarts have seamlessly complemented each other, making the team formidable in any condition.
The Indian team’s excellent run in the shortest format in 2024 stands an example of cricketing greatness, with the potential to extend this momentum into coming years.
