From Pooran to Badoni: A look at LSG’s Possible Retentions for IPL 2025

LSG Possible Retentions for IPL 2025

Lucknow Super Giants have emerged as one of the most competitive teams in the biggest T20 league in the world. Let us look at LSG Possible Retentions for IPL 2025.

LSG reached the playoffs in its first season in 2022 and followed the same in 2023. The three-year old IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants have missed the trick in its third season and failed to make it to the playoffs despite finishing at 14 points, similar to the fourth qualified team, due to low net run-rate.

Despite a busy and challenging side, the mega auction and the six-player retention rule will only allow the franchise to retain their best six players from their 2024 squad, including an uncapped player.

LSG Possible Retentions for IPL 2025

Nicholas Pooran

Pooran was named vice-captain of the Lucknow team ahead of IPL 2024, and also captained the side on multiple occasions in KL Rahul’s absence.

The wicketkeeper batter is currently one of the best T20 batters in the world, who has a unique ability to change the course of the match at any point in time. Pooran has scored 499 runs in IPL 2024 at a whopping strike-rate of 178.21 and will top the chart on LSG’s retention list for IPL 2025.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul had a fantastic IPL with former franchise Punjab Kings, where he not only scored runs regularly but at an excellent strike-rate. However, Rahul performed on similar lines upon joining LSG, and scored good runs so far, but his strike-rate remained a bit low.

Despite that, the franchise may look to retain him owing to his reputation as a solid batter in any format of the game.

Marcus Stoinis

Stoinis is a world class all-rounder, his century knock versus Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024 will be remembered for a long time. While he is superb fielder too.

He has scored 408 runs in 2023, and 488 in 2024 at a strike-rate of 150 and 147.63, respectively. Stonis will surely remain in LSG’s retention list.

Mayank Yadav

The young fast bowler created havoc with his perfect line and lengths matching with his lighting fast deliveries. He clocked the fastest ball of IPL 2024 at 156.7 kmph even after featuring in only four games.

Mayank got the benefit of his exceptional bowling as he received maiden India call-up, and he will now be retained as capped player, and the franchise will surely retain him.

Ayush Badoni

The right-arm batter has showed his class as a crisis man during the IPL 2024 campaign. He had a solid run in recently concluded Delhi Premier League T20, and a rising India star like Badoni will be in most of the franchises list if his name goes in mega auction. However, LSG will be eyeing to retain him as an uncapped player.
