New Captains for BBL Teams
Sydney Thunders and Melbourne Stars appoint new Captains for the upcoming Big Bash League season 12
New Captains for BBL Teams: Adam Zampa will lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn Maxwell’s absence, who fractured his leg last month. Unless he receives an unexpected call-up into the Test squad to tour India, Zampa will be available for the whole BBL as an Australia white-ball-only player.
Meanwhile, Jason Sangha has been elected Sydney Thunder’s BBL captain, David Warner is unlikely to assume the position during his brief stay with the team, even if Cricket Australia eventually overturns his leadership suspension.
Zampa expected by unexpected Skipper
In ODIs and T20Is, Zampa has been mentioned as a potential captain for Australia. He is also a member of the national team’s senior leadership group. In one game last season, he led the Stars to victory over Adelaide Strikers despite the team being hit by Covid.
Born to be a leader Jason Sangha
Following Usman Khawaja’s transfer to the Brisbane Heat, Sangha, 23, was seen as the front-runner for the position. He is one of the developing leaders in Australian cricket.
Last season, when Chris Green was playing for Covid-19 and Khawaja was with the Test team, he captained Thunder in three games. He will be present the entire season, barring illness or injury, so Warner won’t need to step in.
Adam Zampa’s Comments
After being appointed as the new skipper of Melbourne Stars for the upcoming Big Bash League Season 12. He quoted saying “It’s an honour to lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn’s absence and I look forward to helping get the best out of this group. Our Stars journey won’t be complete without a BBL title and we’re throwing everything into this season to achieve that.”
