T20 star David Warner showed what he is capable of by playing a solid knock of 86 off 57 at the challenging batting surface and remained unbeaten till the end of Thunder’s innings.
Warner’s knock and Matthew Gilkes’s unbeaten partnership for the fifth wicket of 69 off 40 balls guided the Sydney Thunder to 156 in 20 overs.
Melbourne Renegades batters in response faced some struggle at the middle after losing their first two wickets on 55.
Laurie Evans played a knock of 26-ball 40, but due to lack of support from the other end and increasing required run-rate pressure he also got out when the Renegades still needing 27 off the final 12.
However, Thomas Stewart Rogers did his best to narrow the gap, hitting a 17-ball 23*, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for his team, who fell eight runs short of the target.
Wes Agar starred with the ball for Thunder as he bagged a four-wicket haul, while Daniel Sams also performed well and took two scalps and gave just 26 in four overs.
This was Melbourne Renegades’ second defeat in the ongoing BBL. With 4 points after 5 games, they are in third on the points table.

David Warner was named player of the match for batting exceptionally well and scoring not out 87 off 57 that included ten fours and two sixes.
