MR vs PS Match Highlights: Melbourne Renegades reached the top position on the BBL 2024-25 points table after defeating Perth Scorchers by two wickets in the tenth match of the season on Monday.

Chasing a target of 144 was not an easy task against the Perth Scorchers quality bowling line-up, but the Renegades, despite losing eight wickets in the process chased down the target in 19 overs.

Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers Highlights

Melbourne Renegades bowlers provided their side a solid start in the game by dismissing three of Perth’s batter early during the innings, while Harvey’s direct hit ran Jennings out.

The Scorchers were in trouble with 35 for 4 in 8.1 overs, but thanks to Copper Conolly’s 66 that guided them to a decent total. Apart from Conolly, Matthew Spoors hit 29 off 26, while the remaining eight batters were not able to touch even the double-digit mark.

It was Thomas Rogers again who led the bowling charge of team Melbourne Renegades with his brilliant spell of 3-0-22-3.

Melbourne Renegades chase mess

After losing their first wicket of Jake Fraser McGurk early during the chase, Tim Seifert (28 off 14) and Josh Brown (12 off 6) added 39 in 20 balls before both got out that left the Renegades at 42 for 3 in 4.2 overs.

A 54-run stand between Jacob Bethell and Laurie Evans (24) again steadied their ship, however, as soon as Bethell walked back after getting out on 30, the Renegades faced a lower middle order collapse.

With 113 for 6, the Renegades still required 31 more runs, but they had 39 balls in their favour, as all their top-order batters did not waste many deliveries and played an aggressive brand of cricket.

The asking rate below 5 gave some time to batters to craft their innings and kept the scoreboard ticking.

A little contribution from the next three, combined with Renegades captain Will Sutherland’s prudent hit of 15 not out off 20, propelled their side to a thrilling victory.
