Melbourne Renegades announced English all-rounder Matt Critchley as club’s latest international signing

Matt Critchley Signs for Melbourne Renegades

BBL 12 Replacement Player: After playing well for Essex in the Vitality Blast, the 26-year-old joins the Renegades. He scored 248 runs at a strike rate of 139.33 and claimed 15 wickets across 10 matches. Additionally, Critchley represented the Welsh Fire in The Hundred. This week, he was picked for the England Lions One-Day squad that will travel to Sri Lanka. Let us look into details at Matt Critchley Signs for Melbourne Renegades.

Critchley joins Ruwantha Kellapotha in the team as a foreign replacement player. However, the Melbourne team has named retired player Fawad Ahmed as a replacement to remedy the shortfall. As a solid leg-spin alternative and well-known for his high strike rate with the bat, Critchley will be a big help in this area as well.

The 26-year-most old’s recent statistics include 15 wickets from 10 Blast games with Essex, where he also amassed 248 runs at a strike rate of 139.33 while taking wickets.

Who is Matt Critchley?

English cricketer Matthew James John Critchley was born on August 13, 1996. He currently plays for Essex County Cricket Club after joining them from Derbyshire County Cricket Club. On May 3, 2015, he faced Glamorgan in the 2015 County Championship, making his first-class debut.

He scored a century for Derbyshire in his second game, becoming him the youngest player to ever do so. In the 2016 NatWest t20 Blast match between Derbyshire and Lancashire Lightning, he made his Twenty20 debut on May 21.

In July 2020, Critchley extended his employment with Derbyshire for a further two years. It was revealed in October 2021 that Critchley had signed a three-year contract to join Essex for an unknown sum. He was acquired by the Welsh Fire in April 2022 for The Hundred’s 2022 season.

General Manager Statement on New Signing

Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten said “We’ve had our eye on Matt for some time given his hard-hitting and spin-bowling combination. We’ve got a strong connection with Essex so we know a lot about his game and what he can bring to the Renegades as a bowler, batter, fielder and teammate.”

He further added, by saying “Mujeeb and Akeal have been world-class. While it’s a shame to see them leave it’s exciting to welcome someone with the skillset that Matt provides and we’re confident he’ll make an impact on the competition.”
