Being invited to bat, despite not having the best of the starts, the Brisbane batters made full use of the batting friendly surface and posted a total of 201 in 20 overs.
Marnus Labuschagne’s 44-ball 77 was the highlight of Heat’s innings, while Matt Renshaw’s 40 off 25, and Tom Alsop’s 39 off 27 provided support to set a big target.
Hurricanes skipper Nathan Ellis picked up three wickets for side, Marcus Bean and Mitchell Owen bagged a wicket each.
The Hurricanes started off on a high note, as their openers added 80 for the first wicket in only 41 balls. Mitchell Owen’s explosive 20-ball 44 ended after he tried to hit Spencer Johnson’s outside off stump ball and was well caught by Usman Khawaja.
After losing their second in quickly, the Hurricanes once again flew high when Caleb Jewell and Nikhil Chaudhary stole the show with their quick-fire knocks.
Jewell played a knock of 49-ball 76 that included nine fours and a maximum, while Nikhil scored 39 off 27.
Things were looking in absolute control when both Jewell and Chaudhary were at the crease, but as soon as both went back, Hurricanes run rate dipped that pushed the final over target equation to 11.
Matthew Wade and Jake Doran kept their nerves and went on to hit the needed runs to guide their side to their seventh victory this season.
