SS w vs MS w 2nd innings: Failed Chase Once Again by Melbourne Stars
SS w vs MS w Match Updates
WBBL 2022: The Melbourne Stars Women’s run chase might have gone in another direction, but as spin was introduced, things started to go the opposite way. The spin combination of Gardner, Bolton, and Ecclestone proved to be too much for the batting lineup of the struggling Stars.
While Alice Capsey(15) and Jemimah Rodrigues (13) did offer some optimism, they exited the game just as the Sixers Women had the upper hand. The majority of the chances of winning this game were crushed after Annabel Sutherland (5) left the field cheaply. She needed to continue playing and score big. Tess Flintoff was the last player left who could still have an influence. She made the decision to play shots and attack the opposition, but she was able to hang on to a sloppy delivery at long-leg! Kim Garth earned the best score, but it wasn’t quite enough for the rest of the hitters.
The Sixers Women’s fielding was excellent. Four catches were made today by Suzie Bates, and some of the ground fielding, at any point in the innings, was excellent. In every manner, the fielding supported the bowling.
SS w vs MS w 1st innings: Sydney Sixers Strong Comeback
SS w vs MS w Match Updates
Sydney Sixers Women were on track to score well over 170 runs, but they ultimately finished ten runs behind for 160.
The Stars did not permit scoring to get out of control. They continued attacking the Sixers with crucial wickets at crucial moments. Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Nicole Bolton, and Sophie Ecclestone made several threats, but they were able to escape just as they were about to get even more enmeshed.
Despite not bowling out, Kim Garth had excellent ball control. Another important contribution from her was the direct hit she ran out. The final two overs by Sasha Moloney and the final over by Annabel Sutherland were both rather strong.
However, there were other opportunities squandered on the field that may have further lowered the score. Tess Flintoff, who struggled with the ball, also missed two receptions. The goal should have been lower than 150, even if one of those four opportunities was taken.
There is something for everyone on the pitch, which is playing nicely. However, bowlers would do better to bowl more consistently straight and take pace off the ball, especially pacers.
The Sydney Sixers Women are now top of the table with 15 points and appear to be getting stronger by the day thanks to their star-studded roster, while the Melbourne Stars Women are no longer even mathematically eligible to advance.
