West Indies vs Bangladesh: First T20I Results Cancelled Due To Rain

West Indies vs Bangladesh: First T20I Results-

The opening T20 of the three-match series between the West Indies and Bangladesh was slated to take place at Windsor Park on Saturday, but it was canceled due to persistent rains, ruining Dominica‘s comeback to international cricket.

After being put in to bat after a postponed start brought on by heavy overnight rain that left damp areas around the field, Bangladesh was restricted to 105 for eight off 13 overs in a staccato inning interrupted twice as more showers swept down off the mountains surrounding the picturesque ground to ultimately wash out any hope of getting a result from a reduced match.

The only two players to get any traction in the tourists’ innings throughout the test were wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan (25 off 15 balls) and test captain Shakib al Hasan (29 off 15 balls), as they often lost wickets to a diverse home attack headed by skipper Nicholas Pooran.

Romario Shepherd, a fast-medium bowler, took the lead in the effort by taking three wickets for 21 runs off of his allotted three overs, while leg-spinner Hayden Walsh claimed two for 24, including the crucial wicket of Shakib, who was caught behind by Devon Thomas, a wicketkeeper-batsman returning to international duty at the same location where he made his senior West Indies debut against the same opponents in a One-Day International in 2009.

While Nurul’s improvisation and aggression, which followed on from his unbeaten 60 in the second Test defeat in St. Lucia five days earlier, gave his side some hope of a defending total before falling to a catch on the square-leg boundary off Odean Smith, the tourists were further set back when Shepherd dismissed Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah at 75 for six in the 11th over.

Within minutes of his dismissal, rains returned for a second time, leaving the umpires with no choice but to declare a no-result because the time left, even with a prompt restart, would not have allowed the West Indies to face at least six overs and a new target using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in response to enable a clear winner.
