Asia Cup 2022 Final Match: On Sunday evening in Dubai, Pakistan’s hopes of winning the third Asia Cup trophy were shattered as the men in green were defeated by 23 runs while attempting to chase Sri Lanka’s 171.
Their batsmen failed to match the intensity of the game and were bowled out for 147 in the challenging 171-run chase.
Mohammad Rizwan, who scored the most runs for Pakistan, tallied 55, but he also faced 49 balls, which put more pressure on the other players.
Iftikhar Ahmed, who walked to bat at no.4 also got criticism for his low-strike knock of 32 in 31 in a 171-run chase game.
However, following the game, Pakistan’s vice-captain Shadab Khan took full responsibility for the team’s loss to Sri Lanka in the 2022 Asia Cup’s final game on Sunday.
Khan first dropped Rajapaksa off when the southpaw was on 46. And in the following over, Shadab and Asif Ali collided as they attempted to steal Rajapaksa’s catch. They gave Rajapaksa two chances, who took the once struggling at 58 for 5 Sri Lanka to 170.
Pramod Madushan who bagged the first three wickets of Pakistan ended with figures of 4 for 34, while and Wanindu Hasaranga took 3 wickets to thrash the Pakistan middle and lower order. Battling for their 3rd Asia Cup title the men in green only mange to post 147 in their 20 overs as Sri Lanka won the match by 23 runs to clinch their sixth Asia Cup trophy.
Later, after the match, the vice-captain of Pakistan, Shadab Khan took to twitter handle and wrote, “Catches win matches. Sorry, I take responsibility for this loss. I let my team down. Positives for team, @iNaseemShah, @HarisRauf14, @mnawaz94, and the entire bowling attack was great. @iMRizwanPak fought hard. The entire team tried their best. Congratulations to Sri Lanka,” he tweeted.
