Indian Team For Asia Cup: Team India’s white-ball vice-captain KL Rahul is all set to be back on the Indian Team after a break of almost 3 months due to surgery.
He will most likely be seen in the upcoming big tournament, Asia Cup 2022, starting August 27. Alongside him, the speedster who also missed the action for quite some time now will also be back on the team.
This time the Asia Cup will be played in T20 format. The Asian Cricket Council took this decision considering the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Notably, Rahul was all set to make a comeback for the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe but he has tested COVID-19 which has apparently delayed his recovery from the sports hernia surgery he underwent a couple of weeks ago.
Earlier, the reliable opener, who was appointed the skipper of team India for the home series against the Proteas in June, was forced to withdraw from the series due to a groin injury. Later he failed to fly to England for the one-off test and white-ball series.
The selection committee, headed by Chetan Sharma, selects a usual squad of 15 or extend it to 17, while keeping in mind all the possibilities.
We have seen Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav alongside Rohit Sharma to open the innings for in the last six T20 games, but as soon as Rahul get back he will have his place back at the top of the order. “KL Rahul doesn’t need to prove anything. He is a class player. Whenever he plays T20, it is always as a specialist opener and that would continue. Surya and Rishabh are set to play as specialist middle-order batters going forward,” a BCCI source told.
The speedster Deepak Chahar, who had sustained a hamstring injury while playing home series against West Indies in February, has recently been selected for the 3-match Zimbabwe tour, which will be played in 50-over format, and his selection for the Asia Cup (20-over format event) will increase the strength of Indian bowling line-up.
