IND Vs AFG: The Virat Kohli show in Asia Cup
In the team’s Super 4 match in the ongoing Asia Cup T20 event on Thursday, against Afghanistan, Virat Kohli recorded his first century in T20I format for India.
Virat came to bat for India as the opener against Mohammad Nabi & Co. in the absence of usual skipper Rohit Sharma, and he stayed there till the end, scoring a total of 122 runs from 61 balls.
Virat set numerous records during his best T20I innings for India, but one of the most notable was that he now holds the record for the highest T20I score by an Indian batsman. He surpassed Rohit Sharma’s mark. On December 22, 2017, Rohit, who has four hundred to his credit in the shortest format posted 118 runs off just 43 against Sri Lanka.
He completed his century with a six on the second ball of the 19th over. That was his first century after 32 fifty-plus scores across all formats.
Kohli now shares the record for most centuries with the legendary Ricky Ponting, with 71. Sachin Tendulkar continues to be in the lead with 100 international tonnes.
Virat also surpassed Martin Guptill of New Zealand to become the second-highest scorer in T20I games during his inning. In addition, he joined Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma as the only Indian hitters to have scored hundreds in all three game forms.
