Even after claiming a big victory in the first T20 of the 5-match series against West Indies on Friday, there has been some talks about the selection of the final eleven players in the team.
The discussion is although genuinely important, considering the upcoming two big events, Asia Cup 2022 in August and ICC T20 World Cup in October.
Team India are trying to figure out every potential combination available to check before the big events, and with that in mind, they promoted Shreyas Iyer to bat at no.3 position.
Iyer, who was seen struggling with his form, was also given a chance to bat at one down position in the recently completed 3-match series against West Indies, which India won by 3-0.
In 3 games, Iyer showed signs of returning back to form after scoring 161 runs with the help of 2 fifties.
Following that, the management also given him a chance to bat at no.3 in the T20 too, but Iyer walked back to pavilion on a duck in the first T20 that raises many questions over his selection in the T20Is.
Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad questioned the presence of Shreyas Iyer in the Indian T20I playing XI. He tweeted, “Some of the selection calls keeping the upcoming World T20 in mind are worth pondering. Shreyas Iyer in T20 cricket when you have Sanju Samson, Hooda and Ishan Kishan in the team is bizarre. With Virat, Rohit and Rahul definite starters, need to work on getting right balance.”
Venkatesh Prasad clarifies Iyer is good in 50-over format
The pacer then replied to the fan on his tweet who said that Iyer has performed well in the past and is just unlucky these days, Prasad came up with another tweet and wrote, “He is good in 50 over cricket. In T20 cricket, there are better players as of now who can get going from the word go. Shreyas will have to work hard on his skills for T20”.
